About adama Farm

About Adama Farm:

Adama Farm is a no-till, regenerative and organic practicing, fruit, vegetable and flower farm in Northern IL. Our mission is to build soil health, increase biodiversity and strengthen community through growing organic food. We believe building great soil comes before growing great food!

Adama Farm is built on a firm faith foundation that seeks to bring heavenly Kingdom values to the farm through land stewardship, community gathering and rich educational opportunities.

At Adama Farm, we do not till. Aside from opening our plots initially, we practice no-till farming for a variety of reasons:

  • Improved soil life and less soil compaction.

  • Increased soil tilth.

  • Less dependence on machinery.

  • Increased water holding capacity and resistance to drought.

We use no pesticides of any kind. We believe that chemicals and sprays, certified organic or not, should not be applied to the food grown at Adama Farm.

We strive to make our food and farming practices available to all. We welcome visitors on the farm at anytime, however we ask that all visitors are mindful of our farmers who work hard to maintain and build our precious ecosystem. Please respect the space as a whole.

We do not provide a U-pick area on the farm, so please do not pick any fruits, vegetables or flowers.

All are welcome to enjoy the farm store and the enchanting sitting areas and gardens throughout the property.

History:

Adama Farm was originally known as Cherry Lane Farm, owned by Trudi Temple- well known gardener, entrepreneur and founder of Market Day. Trudi’s love for gardening is well displayed on the 73 acer property. Age-old benches, heirlooms, perennials and beautiful gardens abound is just a slight reflection of Trudi’s hard work and creativity.

Motivated more by a vision than experience, Jessica Davies acquired the property, now known as Adama Farm, in 2023.

About The Owner:

Jessica graduated with a BA in Environmental Studies at The New School in New York City. During her studies, Jessica became particularly interested in researching sustainable farming techniques and worked on several farms in between her college semesters. Inspired by the work she was doing outdoors and in the classroom, Jessica wrote a thesis titled: Examining Farmers’ Regenerative Agricultural Practices Under Climate Change.

After graduating, Jessica took her farm skills and knowledge to the next level by apprenticing at Frith Farm in 2022, where she learned all about no-till fruit and vegetable farming on a small production scale. Jessica also apprenticed at Amber Waves Farm in 2023, where she learned about organic vegetable and flower farming on a much larger production scale.

Feeling confident in her ability to apply what she has learned over the years, Jessica has started her own farm business, Adama Farm.

Meet the Farmers

  • JEssica Davies

    FARM MANAGER

Jessica started Adama Farm in 2023. Jessi grew up in Park Ridge, IL and is a first generation farmer. She has earned a bachelors degree in environmental science, has traveled around the world, backpacked the Grand Canyon (twice) and worked on a number of farms throughout the US. She is passionate about growing organic, no-till produce for her local community and family. She believes that all farmers are called to be faithful stewards of the earth and farms are a place for community gathering.

    Favorite veggie to harvest: Garlic.

  • SERENA KOCH

    FARMER

Serena is a born-and-raised Montana girl who loves being outside and watching things grow. Her passion for community and earth stewardship drew her to Adama Farm to grow alongside others who share these same values. When she’s not on the farm, you can find her brewing her own kombucha, having a laugh with friends, or getting overly competitive on the pickleball courts.

    Favorite veggie to harvest: Kale.

  • SARA MITCHELL

    FARMER

Sara is a theater major from Southern California, who is currently going through her quarter life crisis. Last year she quit her career job and moved to Hawaii for the Summer to learn about organic coffee farming. Surprise! She loved the work and fell in love with living life outdoors. After finding Adama Farm on Instagram, Sara instantly fell in love with Jessi's vision and decided her next adventure would take her out to Marengo, Illinois. She loves an honest, hard day of work, holding worms, dirt-caked hands and learning how to care for the earth and steward it well. When she is not farming she is either cooking, canning, baking or getting lost in the mountains.

Favorite veggie to harvest: Swiss Chard.
